(WNY News Now) – SHERMAN, N.Y. — A Jamestown man has been charged following an investigation into a fraud complaint in the Village of Sherman, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report on September 14, 2025, concerning an incident that occurred on September 9. The investigation revealed that 38-year-old Tyler J. Shirley of Jamestown allegedly wrote a check for a large amount of money from an inactive bank account and failed to resolve the issue after being notified.

As a result, Shirley was charged with issuing a bad check, a misdemeanor under New York State Penal Law 190.05(1). He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Sherman Village Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
