(WNY News Now) – FRENCH CREEK, N.Y. — A Lancaster man is facing driving while intoxicated charges after a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning in the Town of French Creek.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a crash on Route 426 around 12:10 a.m. on October 18, 2025. Upon arrival, deputies located a vehicle that had been involved in a single-car accident and identified the driver as 44-year-old Thomas A. Segiel of Lancaster, New York.

Segiel was transported to UPMC Hamot Hospital for evaluation of injuries sustained in the crash. Following an investigation, deputies determined that Segiel had been operating his vehicle while intoxicated. He was subsequently charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Speed Not Reasonable or Prudent.

Segiel is scheduled to appear in the Town of French Creek Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
