(WNY News Now) – RIPLEY, N.Y. — A Ripley man was taken into custody early Saturday morning following an altercation that resulted in property damage and charges related to child endangerment.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported disturbance at a residence in the Town of Ripley at approximately 3:52 a.m. on November 1, 2025. Upon investigation, deputies determined that 32-year-old David L. McLaughlin III, of Ripley, had pursued another individual during the incident and used his body to forcefully break through a door to gain entry.

Officials said the act occurred in the presence of children. Due to New York State’s mandatory arrest law in domestic or endangerment-related cases, McLaughlin was taken into custody at the scene.

He was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Menacing in the Third Degree. McLaughlin was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for processing and participation in the county’s Centralized Arraignment Program.

He is scheduled to appear in Ripley Town Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
