(WNY News Now) – OLEAN, N.Y. — March 19, 2026 — A fast-moving response by firefighters contained a kitchen fire at a two-unit residence early Thursday morning, temporarily displacing two occupants but resulting in no injuries.
According to the City of Olean Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 12:59 a.m. to 450 Third Avenue for a reported smoke and odor investigation.
Firefighters arrived within three minutes with two engines and an ambulance. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke and visible fire coming from one of the apartments in the structure. Officials reported that the adjacent apartment had already been evacuated prior to their arrival.
Firefighters forced entry into the affected unit and located a room-and-contents fire in the kitchen. The blaze was brought under control and extinguished within six minutes of arrival.
Two occupants were temporarily displaced as a result of the incident. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The City of Olean Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Olean Police Department. Officials also credited a nearby resident for quickly calling 911 after noticing signs of a potential emergency, helping ensure a prompt response.
