The UFC Hall of Fame is not just a gallery of achievements, but a collection of legends who have shaped the history of MMA. There are no random names here: every fighter, fight or event has left an indelible mark on the sport. In this article, you will learn about the most memorable fights that have earned a place in the Hall of Fame, find out their dates, key moments and unique facts — and understand why they have become legendary.

What is the UFC Hall of Fame and how do fights get there?

The UFC Hall of Fame is an official promotion initiative launched in 2003 to immortalise the greatest fighters, coaches and fights in MMA history.

In 2015, the organisation announced a major reform of the Hall of Fame, introducing a new system of categories. Since then, every July, as part of UFC International Fight Week in Las Vegas, a ceremony is held to induct new outstanding personalities into the Hall of Fame.

The structure of the updated Hall of Fame includes several key areas:

The Pioneer Era Wing features old-school fighters who made key contributions to the birth of MMA as a sport. MMA pioneers such as Jose Aldo, who dominated the featherweight division for 10 years.

The Modern Era Wing features fighters from the era after the UFC became a global brand. For example, in 2023, Anderson Silva was inducted into the Hall of Fame, not just for his 16 UFC victories, but for revolutionising the middleweight division. His knockout front knee strike against Vitor Belfort (UFC 126) became the promotion’s calling card.

‘Coaches and Specialists’ — individuals who contributed to the development of martial arts not through fighting, but through coaching or other activities.

‘Fights’ (Fight Wing) are iconic bouts. For example, Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald 2 (UFC 189). This fight not only received the status of ‘Fight of the Year’ — it raised the bar for endurance and brutality in welterweight.

The Forrest Griffin Public Service Award is given for charity and social activism.

There are no abstractions here — only names, fights, and events that have changed the sport.

Not every fight can make it onto this list. The selection criteria are simple but demanding:

Spectacularity: the fight must be so intense and exciting that viewers will remember it.

Drama: moments when the fight turned into a spectacle — whether it was a heroic comeback, unexpected twists, or the fighters’ character shining through.

Impact on the sport: the outcome of the fight must play a significant role in shaping the history of the UFC or MMA as a whole.
