(WNY News Now) – FREDONIA, N.Y. — A traffic stop for speeding early Friday morning in the Village of Fredonia led to the arrest of a local man on drug-related driving charges, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies reported that at approximately 12:50 a.m. on March 20, 2026, a vehicle was stopped on Main Street after it was observed traveling above the posted speed limit.

The driver was identified as 39-year-old Frank G. Rivera-Montero of Fredonia. Following an investigation, deputies determined that Rivera-Montero was operating the vehicle while his ability was impaired by drugs.

Authorities also reported that Rivera-Montero was found to be in possession of a controlled substance.

Rivera-Montero was taken into custody and charged with Speed in Zone, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (DWAI-Drugs), and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charges in the Village of Fredonia Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
