(WNY News Now) – SHERIDAN, N.Y. — A Dunkirk woman is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop early Sunday morning in the Town of Sheridan led to a driving while intoxicated investigation.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop around 2:50 a.m. on May 3, 2026, near Route 20 and Swamp Road. The driver was identified as 26-year-old Mariah M. Kristan Johnson of Dunkirk.
Following an investigation, deputies determined that Johnson was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. She was taken into custody without incident.
Johnson has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), no or inadequate taillights, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
She was released and is scheduled to appear in Sheridan Town Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
