(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A 25-year-old Jamestown man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after police say he struck another individual with a glass bottle during a disturbance on the city’s south side.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers from the 2nd Platoon responded at approximately 4:38 p.m. to a report of a person with a weapon at a south side address.
Following an investigation, police allege that Charles M. Apperson was attempting to provide alcohol to juveniles in the area when he was confronted by an adult male. During the confrontation, Apperson allegedly struck the individual in the head with a glass beer bottle, causing physical injury.
Police say Apperson fled the scene on foot but was located by officers behind nearby residences. After speaking with the victim, officers took Apperson into custody without further incident.
Apperson has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
