(WNY News Now) – Authorities say a body found along the shoreline near the Stow Ferry has been preliminarily identified as a Lakewood man who went missing in March after driving onto the ice-covered Chautauqua Lake.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded around 8:45 a.m. on May 23 to a report of a possible body located along the shoreline near the Stow Ferry in the Town of North Harmony.
With assistance from the Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office and the Lakewood-Busti Police Department, investigators preliminarily identified the deceased as Daniel “Scott” Emmerson, 64, of Lakewood.

According to investigators, Emmerson had been reported missing to the Lakewood-Busti Police Department on March 5. The investigation determined that on March 4, Emmerson drove his Ford F-150 pickup truck onto the ice-covered Chautauqua Lake and traveled north before the vehicle broke through the ice beneath the Interstate 86 bridge.
Authorities said divers located the truck on March 16, and the vehicle was recovered from the lake on March 20.
