(WNY News Now) – A 29-year-old New Jersey man was jailed after authorities investigated a reported stabbing in the Village of Gowanda early Friday morning.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office has charged a New Jersey man following an early morning stabbing incident in the Village of Gowanda.
According to Sheriff Eric A. Butler, deputies responded to an Aldrich Street address in Gowanda at approximately 4:26 a.m. on May 29 after receiving a report that an individual had been stabbed with a knife.
Following an investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau, authorities arrested Alexander Ariel Vasquez-Perez, 29, of New Jersey. He was charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Vasquez-Perez was arraigned in the Town of Persia Court and remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail pending further proceedings. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The victim was transported by the Gowanda Ambulance Service to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident. Officials did not release information regarding the victim’s condition.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Gowanda Ambulance Service, and the New York State Police.
