(WNY News Now) – ELLICOTT, N.Y. — A 53-year-old Celoron woman was charged following a traffic stop and driving while intoxicated investigation in the Town of Ellicott, according to local police.
The Town of Ellicott Police Department reported that Melissa E. Sweeney, 53, of Celoron, was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (DWAI-Drugs) and several traffic violations on June 4, 2026.
Police said officers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop at approximately 9:18 a.m. after allegedly observing multiple traffic violations. During the investigation, officers determined that Sweeney was allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence of a drug.
Sweeney was issued traffic tickets and transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.
She is scheduled to appear in Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to respond to the charges. The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
