(WNY News Now) – SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. — A Springville man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to attempted sexual conduct against a child, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Joseph F. Decker, 66, was sentenced on June 17 before State Supreme Court Justice Betty Calvo-Torres. Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane said Decker received a determinate prison sentence of 10 years, followed by 15 years of post-release supervision. He will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.

Prosecutors said that between June 20, 2024, and September 19, 2025, Decker attempted to engage in at least two acts of sexual conduct with a child under the age of 13 in the Village of Springville. Authorities stated that Decker was known to the victim.

Decker pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, a Class C violent felony, in full satisfaction of the indictment.

A final order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim and will remain in effect until November 2045.

The investigation was conducted by Detective Richard Lundberg and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Services Unit. Victim advocate Nicole Haffa also assisted in the case.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant District Attorneys Julie B. Fiske of the Special Victims Bureau and Meredith M. Mohun of the Major Crimes Bureau.
