(WNY News Now) – A 50-year-old Celoron man was charged with aggravated DWI after Town of Ellicott police conducted a traffic stop on July 31, according to police.

Richard A. Bentley, 50, of Celoron, was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of .18 or higher.

According to the Town of Ellicott Police Department, officers attempted to stop Bentley after activating their emergency lights and sirens. Police said Bentley allegedly failed to stop and continued driving.

Officers also reported that Bentley was driving erratically, failed to stop at a stop sign, failed to keep right and drove across hazard markings.

Police said further investigation determined Bentley was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Bentley was also charged with failing to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle and several vehicle and traffic violations.

He was issued several uniform traffic tickets and an appearance ticket. Bentley is scheduled to appear in Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The charges are allegations, and Bentley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
