(WNY News Now) – A rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack malfunctioned and caused a residential fire Tuesday morning at a home on Central Avenue in Silver Creek, according to the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team.
The Silver Creek Fire Department and several mutual aid departments responded to 330 Central Avenue in the Village of Silver Creek at about 4:54 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, for a reported residential structure fire.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze before the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team was called to the scene to determine how the fire started.
Investigators determined the fire originated from a malfunctioning rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. The fire was ruled accidental in nature.
