(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies and a New York State trooper arrested a 34-year-old man Sunday after an investigation into an alleged order of protection violation in the Village of Brocton.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and a New York State trooper responded to a Brocton address around 12:52 a.m. Aug. 16, 2026, for a reported order of protection violation in progress.

Investigators determined that Major D. Stearns, 34, allegedly violated an active order of protection.

Stearns was taken into custody and transported to Mayville for Centralized Arraignment Program (CAP) arraignment.

He was charged with second-degree criminal contempt. The case will proceed through the court system.

An allegation is not a finding of guilt, and the charge remains pending unless proven in court.
