(WNY News Now) – A 29-year-old Rochester man was arraigned Friday afternoon on an indictment charging him in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old man in Amherst in April.

Tyshon D. White, 29, of Rochester, was arraigned Friday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case on charges stemming from the April 22 death of Caden Nelipowitz, 21.

White is charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony, and Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a Class C violent felony.

According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, Amherst police responded to the area of Draden Lane and Denrose Drive at about 11:40 a.m. on April 22 for a reported stabbing.

Nelipowitz was taken by ambulance to DeGraff Hospital, where he later died from a sharp-force injury to his lower back.

Prosecutors allege White attempted to cause serious physical injury to Nelipowitz by striking him with a vehicle. White is also accused of stabbing Nelipowitz in the back and upper arm with the intent to cause serious physical injury.

White was held without bail. A future court date had not been scheduled as of Monday.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin T. Wallens of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Ryan E. Thie of the Felony Trials Bureau.

The District Attorney’s Office credited the Amherst Police Department with investigating the case and the Rochester Police Department with providing assistance.

White is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
