(WNY News Now) – A 47-year-old Allegany man was arrested Sunday night after Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies said he failed to stop for a marked patrol vehicle and led officers on a pursuit in Salamanca.

Salvador Casares, 47, of Allegany, was taken into custody by deputies assigned to the Seneca Nation Allegany Territory at about 11:49 p.m. Aug. 23, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the incident began when Casares failed to stop after emergency lights and sirens were activated on a marked patrol vehicle. A pursuit followed and ended on Broad Street in the City of Salamanca, where deputies made contact with Casares and took him into custody.

Casares was charged with aggravated DWI with a prior DWI conviction within 10 years, driving while intoxicated, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, resisting arrest and making a terroristic threat.

He was also issued multiple traffic tickets returnable to Salamanca City Court.

Casares was arraigned in Little Valley Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Salamanca Police Department, Seneca Nation Marshals and New York State Park Police.

The charges are allegations, and Casares is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
