(WNY News Now) – A 34-year-old Spodus, New York, man was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after police investigated a report of a vehicle swerving on Route 60.
Town of Ellicott police charged Tajai N. Nelson, 34, of Spodus, N.Y., with driving while ability impaired by drugs following a vehicle complaint on Aug. 12, 2026.
Police said they responded to a report at about 6:55 a.m. of a vehicle traveling on Route 60 while allegedly swerving and nearly striking a guardrail.
An officer in the area located the vehicle and reportedly observed it fail to stop at a stop sign, fail to signal and make an improper right turn.
Following further investigation, police determined Nelson was allegedly under the influence of a drug and unable to safely operate the vehicle, according to the department.
Nelson was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, failure to stop at a stop sign, no or improper signal and improper right turn.
Nelson is scheduled to appear in Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to answer the charges.
The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
