(WNY News Now) – A Kennedy man was arrested after deputies conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 86 in Allegany reportedly found suspected methamphetamine and crack cocaine.

Christopher S. Roper, 37, of Kennedy, was taken into custody by Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Seneca Nation Allegany Territory following a traffic stop late Thursday night.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-86 in the Town of Allegany at about 11:54 p.m. Sept. 3 for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Roper was a passenger in the vehicle.

During the investigation, deputies reportedly learned that Roper had an active felony arrest warrant issued by the Ellicottville Police Department. Authorities also allege that he possessed drug paraphernalia.

A search of Roper and the vehicle reportedly resulted in the seizure of quantities of suspected methamphetamine and suspected crack cocaine. K9 Cash assisted deputies with the investigation.

Roper was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation for processing. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree.

Roper was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Allegany Town Court at a later date. He was subsequently turned over to the Ellicottville Police Department on the outstanding warrant.

The driver of the vehicle was issued two uniform traffic tickets.

The charges are allegations, and Roper is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
