(WNY News Now) – A 45-year-old man was charged after Jamestown police said he activated a fire alarm at the police department reception area early Tuesday morning.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers assigned to the third platoon observed Randall S. Crocker, 45, described by police as homeless, enter the department’s reception area at about 12:24 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, and pull the fire alarm.

Police said there was no emergency occurring in or around the area at the time, leading to Crocker’s arrest.

Crocker was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jamestown City Jail, according to police.

Authorities said Crocker had been released from the city jail approximately 30 minutes earlier. Police attributed the release to provisions of New York State bail reform.

Crocker was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Second Degree and was held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.

Police said he was subsequently released on an appearance ticket, also under New York State bail reform provisions.

The charge is an allegation, and Crocker is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
