(WNY News Now) – A 38-year-old Olean woman was charged with petit larceny following an investigation into a reported theft at Walmart in the Town of Allegany.

According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, Valerie R. Ruiz, 38, of Olean, was taken into custody at about 9:43 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, in connection with a reported larceny that occurred August 25.

Deputies said Ruiz was accused of leaving the Walmart store in the Town of Allegany after passing all points of sale with merchandise valued at $55.91 without paying.

Ruiz was processed and charged with Petit Larceny.

She was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Allegany Town Court at a later date.

The charge is an allegation, and Ruiz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
