(WNY News Now) – Westfield Academy and Central School briefly activated a precautionary lockout Wednesday after police responded to a disorderly person at Westfield Memorial Hospital.

WESTFIELD, N.Y. — Officers from the Westfield Police Department, New York State Police and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to Westfield Memorial Hospital at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, for a report of a disorderly person inside the hospital.

As a precaution, Westfield Academy and Central School activated its SHELL Protocol to protect students and staff.

SHELL is a school safety protocol that includes Shelter-in-Place, Hold-in-Place, Evacuate, Lockout and Lockdown procedures. In this case, the school implemented a Lockout, which restricts unauthorized entry into the building while normal activities continue inside.

According to a joint statement from the Westfield Police Department and Westfield Academy Central Schools, there was no direct threat to the school associated with the hospital incident.

The situation at Westfield Memorial Hospital was resolved without further incident. Police said there is no ongoing threat to the hospital, school or surrounding community.

After the hospital situation was resolved, the school lifted the precautionary Lockout and resumed normal operations.
