(WNY News Now) – A 49-year-old Niagara Falls man has been indicted on second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse charges in connection with the death of 38-year-old Michelle L. Destefano, whose remains were discovered in June behind an abandoned house.
Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that an indictment has been unsealed against Christopher J. Colon, 49, of Niagara Falls.
Colon is charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Concealment of a Human Corpse in connection with Destefano’s death.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Destefano’s remains were discovered by police in June in a shallow grave behind an abandoned house in Niagara Falls.
The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Niagara Falls Police Department.
Colon was arraigned in Niagara County Court before Judge Caroline Wojtaszek following the unsealing of the indictment.
He was remanded to the custody of the Niagara County Sheriff pending trial. Colon is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges contained in the indictment are accusations, not findings of guilt.
