ALBANY – New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) called out President Trump following Tuesday’s State of the Union where Trump urged Congress to pass federal protection against late-term abortions.
“Tonight, President Trump proposed rolling back the protections provided by Roe v. Wade — the law of our nation for 46 years affirmed and reaffirmed by numerous Supreme Courts,” said Cuomo in a tweet. “Never. New York has a message to those who spread lies and fear to control women’s reproductive health decisions: Not going to happen. Not now, not ever.”
Trump called out New York State for passing legislation that the President said would allow a baby to be “ripped from the mother’s womb moments after birth.”
“These are living, feeling, beautiful babies, who’ll never get a chance to share their love and their dreams with the world,” said President Trump. “And then, we had the case of the Governor of Virginia, where he stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I’m asking Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children, who can feel pain in a mother’s womb.”
