JAMESTOWN – New York Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer paid an unexpected and unannounced visit to the National Comedy Center Friday.

Schumer‌ was in the city to tout his inclusion of the NCC in the 2019 Lands Package to designate the Center as the official Comedy Center of the United States, which he began last March.

Schumer said this official congressional designation will help solidify the facility as a civic landmark and cultural institution, and a premiere comedy destination in the United States, and called on his colleagues in Congress to pass the Lands Package as soon as possible.

The Senator said the designation, if the bill passes, will make the NCC ‘the Cooperstown of Comedy” referring to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

In March, Schumer launched legislation to make the National Comedy Center the official Comedy Center of the nation.
