Young, Goodell To Dedicate Sgt. Gollnitz Memorial Highway

FREDONIA – The Sergeant Jonathan Gollnitz Memorial Highway will be dedicated during a ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fredonia American Legion , 156 East Main St. dedication ceremony.

Outgoing State Sen. Catharine Young and Assemblyman Andrew Goodell will participate along with several local and state officials to dedicate a portion of State Route 20  in Fredonia as the Sergeant Jonathan Gollnitz Memorial Highway.

A Fredonia native, Sergeant Gollnitz, 28, was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. He was killed on Sept. 26, 2012, while on a combat operation in Pul-e-Alam, about 60 miles south of Kabul in Logar Province, Afghanistan, due to injuries caused by a suicide bomber.
