CASSADAGA – A unidentified man was rescued from Cassadaga Lake Tuesday afternoon after the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said he tried to break through the ice.

Deputies responded to a call of a despondent male subject on the ice just before 1:30 p.m.

The caller said that they were trying to take the man to the hospital for treatment when he ran from the vehicle and out onto the ice.

He then attempted to break through the surface ice.

Deputies said members of sheriff’s patrol, Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team and local volunteer fire personnel established a perimeter around the man.

They were able to then establish communication with him and he was taken into custody for treatment.
