57th SENATE DISTRICT – Democrat committees from Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany and Livingston Counties announced this week that a 22-year-old political newcomer from Cattaraugus County was endorsed to run for Former New York State Senator Cathy Young’s Senate Seat.

Austin T. Morgan (D), of Freedom New York, is expected to graduate from Cornell University in June with a Bachelor’s Degree in human development.

Morgan is also the co-president of Cornell Productions, a student-run company that designs venue layouts for events.

The candidate also worked with special needs students as a substitute teacher and teacher aide.

In 2018, he was a session assistant and legislative analyst for State Sen. Leroy Comrie (D) from Queens.

Democratic leaders made their choice after interviewing a number of prospective candidates last week.

The Republicans in Chautauqua County have endorsed current County Executive George Borrello. Borrello is now seeking the endorsement from the other three counties involved.

The 57th State Senate District includes Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties and part of Livingston County.
