Some Cases Never End, NYSP Seek Tips In Fatal Allegany Stabbing

ALLEGANY – New York State Police in Olean continue to look into the 1970 murder of a 23-year-old Town of Allegany Woman.

Troopers report that Carol A. Fitzmaurice was stabbed to death at her home at 2678 West Five Mile Road on October 20, 1970.

Fitzmaurice was found by her husband, Daniel Fitzmaurice, when he returned home from work. Investigators said she was stabbed multiple times in her abdomen and neck, during a struggle in the living room of the residence.

While State Police said they have continued to receive tips and information pertaining to the circumstances surrounding the incident but the identity of the perpetrators of this crime remain unknown.

The case update is part of Cold Case Tuesday, an initiative by New York State Police to reignite unsolved cases from across the state.
