JAMESTOWN – A three-on-three basketball tournament and community block party will be held at Jamestown’s Chadakoin Park this August.

Likeith Saunders, owner of Big Pits BBQ, said he came up with the idea years ago but is finally able to host the event this year.

Saunders said Chadakoin Park is a perfect place for the party because of its location and the new improvements at the spot.

“It’s the people’s park,” said Saunders. “Plus, all the renovations that have been made I wanted to show Mrs. Wilson that it is being utilized in the correct way that she wanted it to be done as far as the kids having somewhere to go and something to do.”

The Jamestown Jackals are co-sponsoring the festivities. Executive Director of #IntegrityFirst Kayla Crosby said the Jackals will be hosting the basketball side of the block party.

Crosby said she thinks the three-on-three basketball tournament will be a great way to bring the community together and have the players interact with young people.

“We really are passionate about our community in Jamestown and really want to see a big opportunity to get the community together, have fun, and really just celebrate Jamestown,” said Crosby. “The guys (players) can’t help it whenever they are around kids. They always want to instill some knowledge upon them and be a positive role model; they will definitely be teaching them some skills while they are here.”

Saunders said in addition to Big Pits BBQ, other local vendors will be on hand selling food and drink.

Registration for the three-on-three tournament is open to anyone ages seven to 40 and costs $80 per four-person team.

Those interested in registering for the three-on-three basketball tournament, or would like to sponsor the event, is asked contact Crosby or Saunders on Facebook, via email at LikeithSaunders@hotmail.com or telephone at 716-450-2119.

Big Pit’s Block Party will take place August 9-11 at Chadakoin Park.
