LAKE ERIE – A Jamestown man swimming in Lake Erie near Barcelona Harbor drowned Friday afternoon.

The Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team recovered the body of John R. Penhollow, 24, following a two hour search.

Swimming in Barcelona Harbor is prohibited due to strong rip currents between breakwalls, deputies said.

Westfeild, Dewittville, Fredonia, Dunkirk and Northeast Pennsylvania firefighters along with the U.S. Coast Guard were dispatched to the scene at 4:30 p.m. to assist the county’s water rescue team.
