VILLENOVA – A Town of Villenova man was arrested following a several hour-long standoff at the Villenova Trailer Park Tuesday morning.

New York State Police say Patrick Olmstead, 22, was speaking with two Chautauqua County Probation Officers on his front porch when troopers arrived to assist with his arrest warrant.

Police said when Olmstead saw the troopers he retreated into his residence and reportedly retrieved a long gun. He then returned and allegedly pointed the weapon at a probation officer.

The officer, police said, slowly retreated from the mobile home.

Troopers said they established a perimeter, and with the help of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, negotiated with Olmstead on his cell phone.

After an hour, hostage negotiators were able convince Olmstead to turn himself in. Police said he exited the residence and was peacefully taken into custody.

Olmstead is charged with menacing a police/peace officer and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Troopers said Olmstead was taken to Chautauqua County Jail to await central arraignment.
