Gerrit Cain, County Libertarians Host Conewango Cleanup And Picnic

KENNEDY – Gerrit Cain, Libertarian candidate for County Legislator and the Chautauqua County Libertarian Party, will host a waterway cleanup and picnic Saturday, Aug. 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the cleanup in the morning and a picnic beginning at 1 p.m.

“These days when there is an issue, our first response is often to look to government to solve it,” said Cain, who is running to represent the Towns of Carroll, Kiantone, and Poland in the County Legislature. “This is understandable given the amount of taxes we pay in this area. However, I believe groups of people who care can accomplish more good through charity and volunteerism. That’s what I want to show through this cleanup and hope it will grow into an annual event.”

Volunteers will meet at the Kennedy Fireman’s Park and Pavilion at 8 a.m. for registration and safety briefing. The cleanup will be on the shore and in the water. Lunch will be ready at 1 p.m., but available until 4 p.m. for those who want to stay longer.

Participants will need to bring sturdy footwear, bug spray, a small boat (or work from shore), life jackets, and long-handled nets or grabbers.

The organizers would appreciate volunteers with pickup trucks or trailers to help haul trash and boats. Any donation of breakfast and lunch items and gloves, and use of extra boats or life vests will also be appreciated.

Contact Gerrit Cain for more information or to register at (616) 970-6480 or caingerrit@hotmail.com.
