DUNKIRK – The Dunkirk Police Department is reminding residents to stay safe during the impending storm that is expected to bring heavy rain and wind gusts possibly near 65 m.p.h. tonight.

Those traveling along the immediate Lake Erie Shoreline, City Pier and any flood-prone areas may experience hazardous conditions.

Police said access to the City Pier, Lakefront Blvd, Point Drive Streets and Crooked Brook areas may be limited travel areas or closed to vehicular traffic if necessary.

Never drive through any areas with high flood water as your vehicle may become submerged. Turn around on any flooded street or area as safety is the first priority.

The DPW says they will will be doing their best to get and keep streets open during the storm and as it subsides. Officials asks residents to stay out of any storm damaged areas and let first responders do their jobs.
