JAMESTOWN – Eleven Jamestown High School musicians were selected for and participated in the NYSSMA Senior High Area All-State Festival at SUNY Fredonia this month.
School officials say Alissa Shimmel (Tuba-Band), Lilly Melquist (Trumpet-Symphony Orchestra), Darren Dunn (Trumpet-Band), Caleb Kindberg (Euphonium-Band), Adam Chang (Viola-String Orchestra), Dylan Lydell (Euphonium-Band), Marissa Rosado (Violin-Symphony Orchestra), Courtney Hays (Soprano-Mixed Chorus), Maisy Chang (Trumpet-Band), Madison Ventura (Horn-Band) and Courtney Grey (Clarinet-Band) were part of the show.
“Many of our students go above and beyond our classroom expectations by preparing for and performing at solo festivals,” said JHS Band Director Meghan Murray. “These are some of our best musicians and students. This opportunity allows our best students to perform with others in our area at the same level. They are challenged musically, and get to work with outstanding conductors from all over the country. The skills they learn at this festival are brought back to their JHS ensembles. It is a wonderful opportunity!”
The students were selected based on their NYSSMA solo audition scores from last May.
The top students from Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie and Niagara counties are selected.
