BUSTI – Police say the woman killed following a crash with a snowplow Tuesday afternoon in the Town of Busti was visiting family for the holidays.
Lakewood-Busti Police Investigator Reed in a phone interview with WNYNewsNow Thursday morning says North Carolina resident Kristin Johnson, 27, a passenger in an SUV, was killed during a crash on Big Tree Road.
Investigator Reed says winter weather conditions likely caused the SUV to lose control, crossing the center line and striking an oncoming Chautauqua County Snowplow.
“It (the SUV) went over to the right, lost control and spun into the southbound lane,” explained Investigator Reed. “The snowplow struck the passenger side.”
The driver of the SUV, a 60-year-old family member of Johnson who was not identified, was taken to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital for her injuries.
Reed says the winter weather made it tough for first responders to rescue Johnson and the vehicle’s driver.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team assisted Lakewood-Busti Police in their investigation. Reed says no charges are expected in this case.
The Lakewood Fire Department and Busti Fire Department also responded the scene.
