CHERRY CREEK — Today marks the nine-year anniversary of a fire destroyed a local ski resort’s historic lodge in Cherry Creek.

Cockaigne Ski Resort’s World’s Fair Austrian pavilion was destroyed by fire in 2011.

To mark the historic event, a reunion is scheduled from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday.

Community members are asked to bring old photos, flyers and season passes to help celebrate the location’s heritage.

Since the fire, the resort is under new ownership and a new lodge was recently constructed.

So far, an opening date has not been set yet, although Cockaigne’s Facebook page says officials are working to improve safety features for the ski lifts.
