JAMESTOWN – Two area school districts are closed Friday not just because of winter weather, but due to illness and the lack of substitute teachers.
Both the Gowanda Central School and Randolph Central School Districts closed their doors.
Gowanda School officials say they have additionally cancelled all school activities through Sunday.
“Due to the flu/illness, the number of available substitute teachers and healthy teachers/staff is too low to effectively operate the schools,” Gowanda School officials said in a statement. “Hopefully, by disinfecting and limiting human contact, the spread of flu can be slowed.”
In Randolph, school personnel say the decision to cancel evening and weekend events will be made and communicated to residents later in the day.
