MAYVILLE – A man arrested in connection with a 2008 cold case death in Chautauqua County has taken a plea deal.

A Chautauqua County Court Clerk tells WNYNewsNow Rance “Randy” Freeman, Jr. plead guilty to a reduced charge of first-degree manslaughter last week.

Originally, Freeman was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the November 2008 death of Westfield man Jeffrey Johnson, whose body was discovered in his home.

Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson previously credited the persistence of the investigators for cracking the cold case.

Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 at 1 p.m. in Chautauqua County Court.
