Two Arrested Following Weekend Vehicle Pursuit In Jamestown

JAMESTOWN – Two people are facing several charges following a vehicle pursuit in Jamestown on Saturday evening.

Jamestown Police say officers were patrolling in the area of Cherry and W. 7th Streets when a grey Chevy Silverado, reported stolen from Salamanca, was spotted.

Police say they attempted to pull the truck over when the operator, later identified as Eric VanGiesen, 34, allegedly accelerated in attempt to elude officers.


The vehicle continued to travel throughout the city, including traveling down one-way streets almost striking other vehicles, police said.

Officers say the vehicle eventually struck an unoccupied parked car on Liberty near Falconer Streets.

VanGiesen then allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by police.



Police say the vehicle’s passenger, Christopher Hewitt, 48, was also taken into custody after officer allegedly found 17 grams of concentrated cannabis.

Police allege VanGiesen was driving while under the influence of narcotics.

VanGiesen is charged with third-degree AUO, DWAI, third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, obstructing, resisting, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and with multiple traffic infractions.

Hewitt is charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.



Police say both were arraigned in Jamestown City Court and released.
