JAMESTOWN – An area restaurant spent Wednesday dishing out free meals for hospital workers in Jamestown.
Basil & Bones set up their food trailer to serve pulled pork mac & cheese, pasta with meat sauce and chicken & biscuits to staff at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital.
The restaurant’s manager, John Calamunci, says this is his restaurant’s way of saying “thank you” to healthcare workers.
“At the end of the day, without having that home base, without being that fabric of the community, without being able to draw those people in and treat them right, you really have nothing,” said Calamunci. “It’s so important to take care of the people you are close to in your hometown.”
In the past, Basil & Bones has hosted several fundraisers for local little league teams and non-profit groups as well.
Currently, the restaurant remains open for takeout. Calamunci says they set up their food truck outside the restaurant Thursday through Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
