LAKEWOOD – A City of Jamestown man is facing charges after allegedly wiping his sweaty forehead on an officer’s bare arm while being taken into custody on Saturday afternoon.

Lakewood-Busti Police say Shawn Garrett, 38, was arrested after he allegedly stole a $18 backpack from the Walmart store in Lakewood.

Officers located Garrett a short distance away from the scene and also found him allegedly in possession of a hypodermic needle.

Police said because this was Garrett’s second attempt of allegedly stealing from the store, he is charged with third-degree burglary in addition to petit larceny.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officers said by Garrett allegedly wiping his sweaty forehead on the officer’s arm, he was also charged with third-degree menacing.

Garrett was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail for arraignment in the case.
