NIOBE – The search for a wanted man is continuing Thursday in parts of Chautauqua and Warren Counties.

Trooper Cindy Schick with the Pennsylvania State Police tells WNYNewsNow Daniel W. Heidler, 35, of Columbus, Pa is wanted on a felony weapons warrant.

Schick says police are not specifically searching for Heidler in person, but rather, waiting for the community to submit tips on his whereabouts. Troopers will then follow up on those tips and search as warranted.

“If they see this individual, we would like them to not engage him we want them to call their local police department, whether that be in Pennsylvania or in New York,” said Trooper Schick. “He has had interactions with firearms, do we know if he has a firearm on him, we do not, but again he’s got a felony warrant so I would consider him to be some type of dangerous.”

Heidler first interacted with the Pennsylvania State Police during an alleged attempted homicide at the Cobblestone Inn in Columbus Township, Warren County in June.

Schick says Heidler alleged he was shot at by a 36-year-old man from Corry, Pennsylvania, although through investigation, troopers determined that the incident was false.

“Through that investigation they discovered that Heidler was in possession of a firearm during that incident back in June, he is a person that is not allowed to possess a firearm due to charges that he had filed on him and he was convicted of prior to these events,” explained Trooper Schick.

Almost two weeks later, on Tuesday, July 7, police were attempting to arrest Heidler on a felony warrant stemming from the June report, when he allegedly fled in a vehicle.

Police say Heidler led them on a pursuit in to New York State before crashing his vehicle into a ditch at the corner of Kortwright Road and Niobe Road in the Town of Harmony.

Heidler then, according to police, fled into a wooded area on foot. The area was searched by multiple law enforcement agencies and K-9 units, but Heidler was not located.

Investigators returned to his camper in Freehold Township where they originally confronted him hours before.

Inside the camper police allegedly found the gun related to the June incident and items used to make methamphetamine.

Anyone with information on Heidler’s location is asked to call State Police in Warren at 814-728-3600.

  1. Why in the world are Police NOT ACTIVELY SEARCHING for him if he is a FELON ON THE RUN?? Waiting for tips from community? THATS ABSOLUTELY INSANE! Isn’t that their job, even if it takes round the clock searches, that IS THEIR JOB! Not some innocent farmer, Amish or otherwise to have to handle.

  2. Lol what do they mean the police aren’t actively looking for him but waiting for the assistance of the community . In the mean time he could further commit crimes and the community is not being paid to do officers jobs. Yet the police make time to perform in necessary and racial profiling traffic stops. This justice system is trash . So we do the work while they sit and eat donuts or continue practicing their misconduct
