LITTLE VALLEY – Lawmakers in Cattaraugus County voted to oppose New York’s executive order calling for bars to only serve alcohol with food.

Lawmakers voted 17 to two during Wednesday’s session.

Sponsors of the resolution say Governor Cuomo’s pandemic executive orders, specifically the one requiring alcoholic beverages to be served only if accompanied by food, “is bizarre.”

This month, the state issued the order to discourage large crowds from gathering at bars and restaurants in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19.

One Cattaraugus County lawmaker explained the order could spark “a crisis of obesity.”
