WASHINGTON — It is key to make sure childcare providers have stable funding to keep them operating in order to reopen more of the economy, Rep. Tom Reed said in discussing a bipartisan effort to include funding in the latest COVID-19 relief package.
During a conference call Tuesday, Reed said the bill creates a blueprint to move forward in securing such funding.
“It sets the framework for how we’re going to provide nine months’ worth of direct assistance to are childcare providers from federal resources,” Reed said. “We want to make sure the childcare providers have the resources available to them.”
He said the framework allows states to design specific programs to distribute the funding but ensures stability.
“This is one of our top priorities, to get this to the finish line,” Reed said. He explained the process is subject to ongoing negotiations.
