MAYVILLE — With schools across the county opening in one form or another, county health officials said they expect an increase in positive COVID-19 tests.
Chautauqua County Public Health Director Christine Schuyler said during a update last week that while the county remains confident the outbreak at Fieldbrook Foods is getting under control, an increase in positive test cases is likely with schools and colleges returning to class.
“With schools reopening, we do expect to see more cases,” Schuyler said.
She cautioned that residents are responsible for taking safety measures because what they do impacts their neighbors and also impacts health care workers on the front lines.
She urged people to use masks in public, practice social distancing and wash their hands on a regular basis. She also said if peole are sick, stay home, get tested and be responsible.
“We still have to live, that’s when it comes down to doing it smartly,” she said. “I don’t see any bigger threat to the community around Fieldbrook Foods than I do anywhere else in the county.”
“Every case will be on an individual basis. There are no blanket rules,”she said in terms of sharing information with the public.
