FREDONIA – The Village of Fredonia’s water quality is improving; however, water customers will still have to boil their water in the foreseeable future.

Local officials announced Monday that the boil water advisory, which has been in place since September 10, will continue.

Officials say they’re working to make the water less cloudy and are now asking people to use less water as they try to solve the problem.

An algae bloom in the village reservoir, combined with a lack of rain and warm temperatures, is blamed for increased turbidity at the water treatment plant.

Since issuing the order, village workers have made several improvements to the plant, including replacing filtration beds.

A water tanker for those at SUNY Fredonia and various water distribution efforts are currently in place to help those in the community get fresh water while the order is in place.

As of Monday afternoon, there is no set date for the order to be lifted.
