FALCONER – The Chautauqua County Humane Society is hosting a free rabies vaccination clinic this weekend.
The drive-in clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday at the Village of Falconer Highway Department on Coleson Drive.
Those wishing to have their pets vaccinated must pre-registered at ChqHumane.org. A form is posted online collecting the pet owner’s name, address and pet’s information.
At the clinic, people are asked to wear facemasks and stay in their vehicles with their pets.
Additionally, pet owners must bring previous vaccination records for each animal.
All dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be in a carrier. Animal handlers will transport animals from the vehicle to the veterinarian for vaccination.
New York State public health law requires that each dog, cat, and domesticate ferret over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies.
Rabies is a profoundly serious disease of warm-blooded animals caused by a virus. Raccoons, bats, skunks, and foxes are common disease carriers. The virus is transmitted to humans and animals through saliva and it can enter the body through a bite, scratch, scrape, or open cut.
