Local School Students Use ‘Dance Dance Revolution’ During Phys Ed Class

JAMESTOWN – Officials from Fletcher Elementary School physical education students were moving and grooving to Earth, Wind & Fire’s September during a recent class with teachers Greg Jackson and Kevin Emley.

The students were using “Dance Dance Revolution” borrowed from the Lending Locker program through Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES.

Officials say Dance Dance Revolution is a great physical education activity for the students as it combines physical components such as: coordination, increased heart rate, cardiorespiratory endurance and muscular endurance with the video gaming technology using the XBox 360.

Additionally, the school says that this unit has also been a great activity to maintain the social distance guidelines that have impacted the entire school community.

The teachers will be using Dance Dance Revolution for about two and a half weeks allowing the kids to compete against each other to get the highest score. The teachers will keep leaderboards to inspire friendly competition and work harder.

“This unit has been wonderful as it gives kids an alternative way to be physically active, especially as cold weather approaches,” said Jackson. “The students really love doing the activity and we love seeing them enjoy physical activity.”
