JAMESTOWN – With the number of COVID-19 cases rapidly increasing across New York State, officials have ordered all local courts to stop in-person appearances until further notice.
Anyone with a pending case in a Town or Village Court is asked to contact the court in question to see if the matter can take place virtually.
Jamestown City Court is also closing for in-person hearings, a court clerk says arraignments and preliminary hearings will be held virtually.
The clerk says most cases will be transferred to Chautauqua County Court for the time being.
Courtrooms across the state closed in-person proceedings earlier this year due to the pandemic.
Most later reopened in May with most appearing virtually. The appearances will now continue virtually in County Court.
